CNA Licensure

Most students who successfully complete their first semester of nursing school are eligible to apply for their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license, which allows you to attain a job at a hospital as a tech or a nursing student. This is a valuable opportunity to get your foot in the door and gain experience outside of your clinical rotations!

To be come licensed as a CNA, you must submit the following to the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON):
1. Completed CNA application:  CLICK HERE
2. Obtain an official transcript from your approved nursing program
3. Evidence/receipt from your Criminal History Background Check being completed
4. The required application fees (Initial certification fee is $20 and must be a money order or certified check only)

The Initial CNA Application may not be completed online by nursing students. A paper application must be completed and may either be printed from the link above or requested by emailing mdbon.inac@maryland.gov  with the following information:
1. Your name
